Synthesis and characterization of adsorbent materials for drug delivery and pollutants recovery applications. The research aim is to optimize the adsorption properties of the materials by using different synthesis routes, etching, functionalization, and synthesis of composites.

Experimental activity:

  • Synthetic approach: solid-state, sol-gel, hydrothermal and solvothermal, microwave, co-precipitation, reflux techniques.
  • Characterization techniques: X-ray powder diffraction (qualitative and quantitative analysis), Electron Scanning Microscopy and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, IR spectroscopy, thermal techniques, surface area evaluation.
  • The drug delivery investigations and the emerging pollutant recovery are carried out in a collaborative frame with laboratories of the Dept. of Drug Sciences and of the Dept. of Chemistry – Analytical Chemistry section.

Materials under investigation:

  • Layered Double Hydroxides, Metal Organic Frameworks, Halloysite nanotubes and their composites with magnetite.
